Many prefer 'ubat kuat' to Viagra14-Jul-2010 : HOW far would you go for your manhood?
A visit to the doctor will likely solve problems of loss of libido, low stamina and erectile dysfunction, but despite the science and research behind modern medicine, many still prefer traditional solutions. Checks by the New Straits Times in markets and roadside stalls uncovered numerous brands of power-enhancing capsules and oils priced between RM15 and RM50. Many of the oils and lotions come with instructions in both written and illustrative form. Traditional ubat kuat distributor Ahmad Hushaimi (not his real name) said getting men interested in buying the medicine was never a problem. The only difficulty is getting them to buy in public. "Some of the traditional ubat kuat in the market haven't been approved by the Health Ministry. This is why some peddlers continue to sell them by the roadside or through other means. "I sell mine online and deliver them personally. I found this method to be the best because men are embarrassed to buy these things in public." Ahmad has been in business for a year. A 30ml bottle of his most popular rubbing oil costs RM50. He said among the ingredients of traditional ubat kuat were root extracts and sesame seed oil. "In a month, at least 30 men will buy this oil from me," he said. "To my knowledge, no side effects have been reported from its use." Aishah Mahat, 45, a nurse who quit her job two years ago, is now a local distributor for a popular jamu company in Indonesia. "Many of my customers are men in their late 50s who still want to enjoy adventurous nights with their spouses." Aishah, who is earning more now compared with her days as a nurse, said this was due to the high demand for such medicines. "Leech oil is the No. 1 favourite among male customers, whereas stomach deflating capsules are a hit with females, especially those who want to manage their weight problem and post-natal care." Public relations executive R. Nithyavathi, 26, is a staunch supporter of traditional supplements. "I find that cosmetics and medications that are manufactured traditionally have fewer risks compared with modern drugs, which are quite unreliable. "As a PR personnel, I have to look good as I project my company's image to people, most of whom are high-profile businessmen. I regard Indonesian jamu a good buy as it does not come with any side effects." Salim Ashari, 65, a retired hospital attendant and father of 12, whose youngest child is 3 years old, swears by his regular leech oil supply. "Viagra pills have been reported to possess dangerous side effects, but not leech oil," said a smiling Salim, who has been recommending the oil to friends and relatives. Source: New Straits Times
